ALMADA. Erected during the late 1940s to publicly thank God for sparing Portugal during WWII. His arms outstretched, the 90-foot tall statue of Jesus stands atop a 270-foot high base, a poignant reminder of Christ's loving invitation. Description:
ALFAMA. This edifice was 285 years in the making! Construction began in 1681 and was completed in 1966 following numerous delays and setbacks. The Baroque structure resembles a cross and is capped by a massive dome. Guests are permitted to visit the roof under the dome for a scenic glance at the Alfama district and the Tagus River harbor.

Description:
BAIRRO ALTO. Founded in the 16th century. Most noteworthy is the phenomenal Baroque chapel named for John the Baptist, the prophet who heralded the coming of the Messiah, Jesus of Nazareth. The chapel was built in Rome, dismantled, and then shipped to Lisbon for reassembly in 1749. On-site museum contains a stellar collection of 16th and 17th century art.
